Shanghai, located at the outlet of the Yangtze River into the sea in east China, is a metropolis, the largest economic center and one of the four cities under the direct jurisdiction of the central government in China.Located at the center of the mainland's coastline, Shanghai has long been a major hub of communications, transportation, and international exchange with the world`s busiest container port. The municipality covers an area of 6,341 square kilometers and has a population of more than 13.5 million.



Shanghai is also a major culture and educational center, with numerous universities, museums and cultural institutions. The city is home to a variety of cuisines and, is known for its street food and local dishes such as xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and shengjianbao (pan-fried dumplings).
